Nestled in the heart of the quaint, historic
riverfront town of Occoquan, Virginia, Brambles
opened its doors in May 1997. The store opened
initially as a showroom for owner and artist in
residence Sharon Prophet’s handpainted vintage
furniture. Over the next few years the inventory
quickly expanded to slipcovered furniture, a
reclaimed pine furniture line, home and garden
accessories, jewelry and much more. Brambles
outgrew its small space at the edge of town and soon
moved into the larger space it currently resides in
the town’s center. A graduate in Fine Arts from
James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia,
Sharon designed interiors for many years before
opening Brambles.
In
2000, her husband and co-owner Dan Prophet retired
after 20 plus years in the roofing and contracting
business to help her with her ever expanding store.
Together they have the tools that make Brambles a
success with Sharon’s design saavy and keen eye for
finding unique items and Dan’s friendly
salesmanship, handy touch in finding, refurbishing
and delivering the furniture.
Brambles style can be loosely defined as a little
bit country French and a little bit garden style.
Walk into the store an you will find yourself
surrounded by a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Relax
and take a load off your feet as you sink into the
one of the CoverAlls upholstered slipcovered sofas
by Lee Industries. Browse through garden and
topiary delights as the sound of a statuary fountain
trickles in the background. Gaze through
reproduction vintage chandeliers at vibrantly hued
hand blown glass and stained-glass window
adornments. Try on beautifully handcrafted engraved
sterling silver rings, bracelets and watches and be
inspired. Brambles inventory of furniture and
accessories for home and garden is ever changing, so
please so stop in often and stay a while!
